What are Truck Champ’s chrome accessories made of?

Truck Champ’s chrome accessories are made by Putco from automotive-grade ABS, and are coated with a radiant OEM-matching finish. ABS plastic, based on acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers, is the best material for chrome accessories that require not only luster and shine, but need to maintain surface quality and colorfastness. A two-phase polymer blend, ABS is known for its thermal coefficient of expansion, tensile (extendible) strength, density, impact strength, and durability in severe temperatures. When used for chrome accessories, ABS is also resistant to chemicals, such as oil and grease, dilute acids, and dilute alkalis. ABS gains its hardness, rigidity, and temperature resistance through a continuous phase of styrene acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN), while the toughness of your chrome accessories comes from submicroscopic, fine rubber particles of polybutadiene that are dispersed in the SAN.
Putco’s Liquid Billet line of chrome accessories, such as our grilles, are carved from solid slabs of billet aluminum (an alloy of aluminum and other metals). This works well for chrome accessories because billet aluminum is light weight and not as expensive as other light metals.

Some of our products, such as fender trim and mud flaps, are high-grade stainless steel, which include Putco’s NeveRust® Lifetime Warranty. These products, which are 304-grade stainless steel with a high chromium and nickel content, are not only rust-proof, they also have a highly polished, reflective surface.
